Slim Harpo recorded both "Rainin' in My Heart" and "Don't Start Cryin' Now" in November 1960 in Crowley, Louisiana. The two songs were subsequently released together as a single in January 1961 on the Excello Records label.

• "Rainin' in My Heart" served as the A-side and became one of his most successful hits, reaching #34 on the Billboard pop charts in the summer of 1961.

• "Don't Start Cryin' Now" was the B-side to that single and later appeared on his 1961 album, Sings "Raining in My Heart".
