What is Intel Optane Storage?
Solid state drives are expensive, especially at higher capacities. Optane is the economical way to "eat your cake and have it, too." 

A high-capacity HDD is paired with an Intel Optane NVMe SSD, which acts as a fast cache for the data you use most often -- including the operating system. The Intel drivers manage that cache based on what data you use, so for starting the computer, browsing the web, and other everyday use, it will feel snappy and responsive, only slowing down when you open large files or data you rarely use.

Optane RAID is Windows only, but the hardware can be reconfigured as a regular NVMe drive if you want to replace it with Linux.

Testing Process:

I use a two-pass QA process. Individual components are tested when they arrive, and the final assembled product is tested before shipping.
  • Hard drives undergo SMART extended self-tests and a full wipe prior to system configuration/assembly.
  • RAM undergoes memtest86 4-pass verification.
  • All physical ports are tested for basic function.
  • Wifi is tested for basic functionality.
  • Whole system is tested end-to-end with an operating system (either the one it ships with, or one loaded from USB).
