Stanley Bailey Number 4 Type 14 smoothing plane with smooth bottom from 1929-1930. I’ve restored this hand plane to be a fantastic user. I’ve removed surface rust and tuned it up. The iron has the “AA” sweetheart logo trademark from 1922-1935. The iron has been squared and honed nice and sharp to 15000 grit with a touch of camber to prevent plane tracks and is almost completely full length. The back of the iron has been honed to 15000 using the ruler trick. The chip breaker edge has been flattened to 1000 grit to mate with the iron. The rosewood tote and knob are in decent shape. The tote was missing its top when I received it, so I repaired it with a piece of cocobolo. I hand sanded the tote to 180 grit, then applied two light coats of shellac. There is a chunk missing from the base of the knob, as pictured. I hand buffed the tote and knob with steel wool and paste wax. The sole has been lapped flat. There is some japanning loss on the bed, as pictured. This plane is taking nice wispy shavings and is ready for another 95 years of use!
