Hello, and welcome to our auction for this lithographed tin-plate wind-up soldier, primarily manufactured in Germany during the early 20th century.
It’s marked with the letters D.R.P. (German Imperial Patent). Items marked as such were manufactured in Germany between 1877 and 1945.
It features a clockwork wind-up motor and when wound with the included key, the soldier typically crawls forward, stops periodically to simulate firing his rifle, and then continues. The clockwork winds and the crawl mechanism moves slowly and stops. If you turn the key yourself in reverse direction the mechanism moves quite freely and the rifle makes a firing spark bang. This ideally needs servicing to make it operational. A great cosmetic original condition toy.
It measure approximately 18–19 cm (about 7.5 inches) in length.
