Henri Matisse: (1869-1904) was a French artist that is commonly regarded as one of three artists (Pablo Picacco and Marcel Duchamp being the other two) who helped define the revolutionary developments in the plastic arts in the beginning twentieth century decades. Originally labeled Fauvist, his early works were remarkably mature. After seeing Impressionist and Japanese art, color became instrumental to his work and he would experiment with expressive abstraction. Matisse expressed joy through pattern, ornamentation and vivid colors and his work is in many Museums and permanent collection across the world.
