Description
JAMES TYLER USED Studio Elite Psychedelic Vomit FRT Mamywo Body 1994 [SN. 465]
A popular model from James Tyler, the king of component guitars, has arrived as a consignment sale pre-owned item! This is an early 1994 Tyler! It boasts an overwhelming presence with its distinctive color, Psychedelic Vomit!
This is a rock-style guitar with a classic mauyowood body, Series/Parallel switch, and FRT bridge!
James Tyler Guitars are professional guitars that combine a colorful psychedelic pattern that overwhelms the viewer with playability that promises the best performance for the player and a wide range of sound characteristics!
While there are many distinctive Tyler colors, Psychedelic Vomit, named after its hallucinatory nature, is a representative Tyler color alongside Jim Burst and Burning Water, known for its beauty and flamboyance.
The Psychedelic Vomit color, symbolic of James Tyler Guitars, was born in 1991!
This guitar is presumed to be a 1994 model based on its serial number.
It features a maple fretboard/neck and a mamuyo wood body, a wood material selection that blends well into ensembles!
The rich, flat harmonic tone of the classic Tyler mamuyo body, when combined with the latest equipment, creates a captivating magic that enchants listeners! Of course, even with a simple setup, you can fully enjoy a raw, aggressive rock sound!
While there is no spec sheet, based on the wood grain visible through the bare arm contour, the pore structure, and the overall resonance, this is undoubtedly a mamuyo wood body. You can enjoy the unique, harmonically rich resonance and tone characteristic of mamuyo wood! The bridge is a Schaller Floyd Rose.
Currently, the string height at the 12th fret is approximately 1.7mm on the 6th string side and approximately 1.5mm on the 1st string side. Due to the construction of this particular instrument, the string height cannot be lowered any further, but even as it is, the playability is excellent. The weight is approximately 3.61 kg, a balanced weight that produces a rich, full sound.
The neck, with its striking headstock, features a maple neck with beautiful bird's-eye maple inlays on the headstock and a rosewood fingerboard! The neck shape is a thin, easy-to-grip shape common to 80s and 90s models and the current Extra Thin 59 Shape! A rare autograph by James Tyler is inscribed on the back of the headstock! A rare autograph by James Tyler is also inscribed on the included SKB hard case!
The neck sides have been moderately scalloped, making it even easier to grip and play! While Studio Elite models often feature 6100-type jumbo frets, this particular instrument has been fitted with 6105-type medium frets. A slight forward bow was observed on the 1st string side, so prior to consignment sale, the frets were leveled at a repair shop. The fret peaks are now aligned, so there are no issues with current use. Approximately 85% of the fret life remains.
The truss rod was .009-.042 gauge, and the neck was perfectly straight when loosened to its limit. However, considering future use, it has been set up with .010-.046 gauge. There is ample adjustment range in the tightening direction.
The pickups are the familiar quarter-pound type James Tyler Original Single Coil and Humbacker Pickups!
The assembly features a button switch for Series/Parallel switching. Dummy coils (noise-canceling coils) are installed in both the front and center Single Coil pickups, and the switch allows you to select whether to connect these dummy coils in series or parallel to the main pickups. The bottom push switch toggles the rear HB's series/parallel connection. Pressing it activates the series connection. It also features a 2-way rear direct switch, allowing you to instantly select between backing tones with the front/center pickups and lead tones with the rear direct! Activating it selects the rear direct connection.
While it doesn't have preset buttons, it does feature James Tyler Guitars' signature mid-boost! This guitar offers a wide range of sound shaping possibilities!
The popularity of James Tyler Guitars stems from the fact that they directly reflect the opinions of professional players! This guitar is easy to play, comfortable in any position, and allows you to fully experience the Tyler magic of its wild, untamed sound!
Many Tyler fans describe the James Tyler Guitars sound as "wild"!
Especially in the 80s and 90s, James Tyler himself sometimes handcrafted parts such as carving. This handcrafted feel, in a good way, is believed to be one of the factors that creates the unique, wild, and rock-and-roll Tyler tone!
This time, we have received a used guitar on consignment. It is estimated to be from 1994.
There are minor scratches, pick wear, tarnishing on the pickguard and metal parts, and some rust, but none of these affect playability. There are no large, noticeable scratches or dents that expose the wood.
Maintenance and cleaning have been performed at our shop and a repair shop, so it is ready to use immediately.
As mentioned above, the frets have been replaced with 6105-type medium frets. A slight forward bow on the 1st string side was observed, so a leveling treatment has been performed. There are no problems with current use. Approximately 85% of the frets remain.
The truss rod is currently at its peak on the fretboard. While it has limited adjustment range in the loosening direction, there is still plenty of room to tighten it. This is a setup using .010-.046 gauge strings.
