Johnson Wray accessory rangefinder, 1960s, case, good working condition.  

Manufactured by Wray and marketed with Johnson (of Hendon), this accessory rangefinder was retailed in the mid-1960s, at a time when many folding cameras pitched at the amateur photographer were of the viewfinder type, with accessory rangefinders such as this an optional extra.

Photo 8 shows an extract from the 1965/66 Wallace Heaton catalogue, in which the Johnson Wray rangefinder is listed at £2/8/10 with the leather case 9s7d extra (in 1966 the average UK weekly wage was £13-£14...).

The centre screw in the distance scale (photo 5) is for distance adjustment, the slotted surround on the adjacent eyepiece is for height adjustment using a coin.  The shoe can be unscrewed and rotated by 90 degree quarters if so desired.

The rangefinder is in very good working condition, with clear optics.
