OH BOY !
I had a question from an eBayer:
Greetings drumfarm: Great looking vintage item! I enjoyed your lengthy but descriptive words about the shell.
But one MAJOR concern and question: Is the shell "in-the -round"? Are you able to test the circumference/''roundness'' with a batter head--and test the resonant side as well? Thank you for your time and reply.
My answer:
Hi there,
Thank you for asking.
Good Question.
I got out an EVANS DRY 300, a Remo Pinstripe, a Remo Ambassador brush white,
and a Remo Weather King snare head.
All fit the top, maybe just a bit snug, but they do fit.
All were tight on the bottom at the spot where the bed crimps are, but they do go on.
I have one other similar shell up, 1967 black and gold badge, but it has a big dent behind the throw off spot. All the same heads fit this one easier, and even spin on the top side. They go on the snare side easier, but snug enough not to spin.

Thank you again for asking.
Now back to the auction:
Can you use this?
You are looking at a used vintage
1970s 5x14 Slingerland chrome over brass
Gene Krupa COB snare drum shell 148392.
This is just a shell, no parts remain except the badge and grommet.
This is a chrome over brass Gene Krupa Sound King 8 lug shell.
There is a small dent or two,
It has clean chrome, no steel wool job.
The size is 5x14.
This one has Serial number 148492 on a black and silver Niles Illinois USA badge.
Year is about 1970 give or take a couple years.
The one big problem with the drum is that it has no parts.
No parts remain except the serial number badge and the grommet.
The other problem with the drum is a small dent or two.
I see one small dent behind the lug next to the throw off.
For these reasons, I am calling it a parts drum, or repair project.
The chrome still looks good otherwise.
It has not seen steel wool.
Eight lug drum. I like 8 lug drums.
This snare drum would be a great players drum when you get it together.
There may be a slight scuff or scratch in a panel or two.
Photos show most of the flaws.
Check the inside shots of the shell.
The shell is clean and looks good.
You can further detail it yourself.
This shell itself weighs about 3 pounds and 2.2 ounces.
I know this is a chrome over brass shell.
A magnet does not stick to it.
It has rolled reinforcement rings.
If you need a drum like this, don’t miss out.
If you have any more helpful information, I’d be happy to post it.
As shown.
Please ask about condition.....
if the photos do not seem to tell the whole story, they are part of the description,
ask, before you bid, please.
Any other questions?
Just ask, please.
