Great British Locomotives (1976)

A rare example from the personal library of Rev. W. Awdry, creator of the Thomas the Tank Engine stories.

This hardback volume was produced as the companion book to the National Railway Museum's Great British Locomotives ingot collection and contains several features linking it directly to Awdry's personal collection.

This copy includes:

• Rev. W. Awdry's personal Ex Libris bookplate
• His handwritten signature and date
• An original pasted-in letter from John Pinches Ltd relating to the locomotive ingot collection

To help verify provenance, photographs of the bookplate and signature have been shown to a museum that holds part of Awdry's former library. They advise that both appear consistent with known examples from his collection and a copy of the correspondence will be sent with the book.

The book is in excellent condition throughout with.

• Clean pages
• No foxing noted
• Binding sound and secure
• Covers and spine in very good order

Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.

Outside of museum examples, any books carrying documented links to Rev. W. Awdry's personal library are extremely rare. The combination of the Ex Libris plate, signature, date, and accompanying correspondence creates a strong provenance that may appeal to collectors of railway history, Thomas the Tank Engine memorabilia, and Awdry-related material.
