This Electra reveals more than the private lives of Electra and Agamemnon, of Clytemnestra and Orestes. Written from Electra's point of view, it shows in action the many forces which contributed at last to the downfall of Mycenae's brilliant culture, and the coming of the Dorian Dark Age which was to last for five hundred years and more.

3. Oedipus

1968, Sphere, 1st thus

 

Oedipus: doom driven Shepherd King of Thebes.
Spurred on by the awful prophecy of the Oracle, Oedipus fled Corinth to avoid slaying his father. But he was a foundling, and the lord he killed on the road to Thebes was his natural sire... the queen he thus widowed - and married - his mother.
