A DIFFERENT VIEWPOINT OF THE TIMES AS HITLER HAD NOT YET SHOWN HIS INTENT. THE HEADLINE REFLECTS ITALY'S INVASION OF ETHIOPIA BY MUSSOLINI. THIS INVASION INVOLVED 100,000 ITALIAN TROOPS. This is interesting because it reflects how the US reacted at this time, years before the real storm began.

This timeline has essentially disappeared from history as Mussolini became regarded as a third rate Hitler. This invasion was the beginning of Italy's World War II offensive. This is also before Francisco Franco launched the Spanish Civil War.

As time moved on, and the overall breadth of World War II became evident, historians had to create a tighter timeline. 1939-1945 is the current accepted timeline due to the participation of a greater number of nation states after Hitler's invasion of Poland. There are many who still propose this date of October 3, 1935 as the true start of World War II, but that leaves large time periods with few major new developments.
