The Yamaha BB series flagship electric bass, the "BBP," has undergone a minor model change!
* Alder/Maple/Alder 3-ply Body Construction
The new BB series features an alder/maple/alder 3-ply body construction. The hard maple wood sandwiched between the alder on both sides enriches the midrange, resulting in a resonant body that blends better with the band's sound. Furthermore, the use of maple in the body allows for direct sound transmission with the maple neck, reducing sound loss between the body and neck and ensuring reliable capture of string vibrations.
* Miter Bolting System
In addition to the four screws that vertically secure the neck from the back of the body, two more screws are added to secure the neck end at a 45-degree angle from the back of the body. This miter bolting system firmly connects the body and neck, creating a powerful, unified resonance. It results in less energy loss from string vibrations than a standard bolt-on joint, achieving rich sustain and overwhelming body resonance.
* Newly Developed Pickups
The new BB series features newly developed pickups tailored to each model. While inheriting the traditional BB sound, the output gain in the mid-to-high frequency range has been improved, resulting in a clear sound with a well-defined contour. The pickups, suited to the unique character of each model, enable the creative and versatile expression that players demand.
* Convertible Type Bridge & Saddle
The "strings-through-body" structure is adopted, where the strings are passed through the back of the body. Compared to the common method of passing the strings vertically through the back of the body, passing the strings at a 45-degree angle transmits the energy of the string vibrations to the body with less loss. In the common string-through-body method, where the strings are passed directly under the saddle, there is significant vibration loss at the plate and saddle, making it difficult to transmit string vibrations efficiently and reliably. However, by cutting the bottom of the body at an angle and passing the strings at a 45-degree angle, the stress on the strings at the saddle is reduced.
The BB Pro series is equipped with a Vintage Plus bridge, achieving a sharp and clear sound. The Vintage Plus Bridge features brass saddles for deep bass tones and steel plates for a brighter sound. Metal parts such as springs and screws are made of stainless steel for resistance to rust and corrosion. Furthermore, the different contact points of the semi-circular saddles allow for a wide range of tones, from crisp and clear to warm and mellow, accommodating the player's diverse expression.
*A minor model change in 2023 changed the hardware from matte to glossy (chrome), and added two color variations: VW (Vintage White) and MLB (Moonlight Blue).
