Saint Victor's Abbey, founded in the 12th century by Guillaume de Champeaux, was a theological and philosophical school of the Middle Ages, based in Saint Victor's Abbey located outside the walls of Paris. It gave rise to some of the most important mystical philosophers of the time such as Hugo and Richard of Saint Victor.
The school of St Victor was the medieval monastic school at the Augustinian abbey of St Victor. It was founded in the twelfth century by Peter Abelard's tutor and subsequent opponent, the royalist school master William of Champeaux, and a prominent early member of their community was Hugh of St Victor.
Saint-Victor is an ancient abbaye of chanoines réguliers (Augustins), founded in the 19th century by Guillaume de Champeaux, archdeacon and director of the école cathédrale of Notre-Dame de Paris. In quelques dizaines d'années Saint-Victor était devenue l'un des centers les most importants de la vie intellectuelle de l'Occident médiéval, surtout dans le domaine de la théologie et de la philosophie1. They are rayonnement perça au travers de maîtres aussi illustres que Hugues, Adam, André, Richard ou Thomas Gallus, explorant de nombreux champs de la connaissance. Supprimée in 1790, the abbaye was destroyed in 1811.
