Views in Palestine published in 1810 as it appears engraved below the title. It's one of the first English travel books to use the aquatint in large size. Luigi Mayer was an Italian-German draftsman and painter specialized in the Ottoman Empire as he was a close friend of Sir Robert Ainslie, British ambassador at the Ottoman Court (1776-92). Mayer traveled extensively since 1776 to 1794 through the Ottoman Empire taking sketches, views, customs drawings that were commissioned by Sir Robert Ainslie and were in the Ainslie art collection until the 20th century
