In 2012, Canada famously ended the production of its one-cent coin - an initiative known as the "Farewell to the Penny." The Royal Canadian Mint (RMC) struck its final penny on May 4, 2012. To mark the occasion, the RMC released special commemorative pieces, including a pure silver 1-cent coin, a fine gold 1-cent coin, and a collector’s 5-coin set featuring all of the major penny designs from Canadian history.  Ten years later in 2022 the RCM issued a 10th Anniversary pure silver 1-cent coin featuring the "W" mint mark.

The one-ounce silver coin (S1c) for auction celebrates the 10th anniversary of the "Farewell to the Penny" initiative.  It is graded SP70 by NGC.  It was produced at RMC's Winnipeg facility and is the third coin to have the W mint mark.  A limited mintage of 15,000 make it a sought-after piece for collectors.  The Certificate of Authenticity issued by the RCM is included with the item.
