The False Julii Corydoras is a peaceful and attractive schooling catfish, known for its playful nature and striking pattern of fine black spots and a bold horizontal stripe running down its body. Often mistaken for the true Julii Cory, this species is more commonly available in the aquarium trade and just as charming. Their active bottom-dwelling behavior, coupled with their gentle temperament, makes them a favorite choice for planted and community aquariums.
We ship these corydoras at 1–1.25 inches, a healthy juvenile size ideal for acclimation and growth. As adults, they typically reach 2–2.5 inches, remaining compact enough for medium-sized aquariums while still showcasing their bold spotted pattern. Best kept in groups of 6 or more, these fish display fascinating schooling behavior and thrive when surrounded by their own kind.
False Julii Corydoras do best in aquariums of 20 gallons or larger, with a soft sand substrate to protect their sensitive barbels. A tank with live plants, driftwood, and hiding spaces helps them feel secure, though they also need open areas for active foraging. Their peaceful nature makes them excellent community fish, safe with shrimp and small, non-aggressive tank mates.

As bottom-dwelling omnivores, False Julii Corydoras thrive on a diet of sinking pellets, wafers, frozen foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia), and blanched vegetables. While they help clean up excess food, they still require consistent feeding to stay healthy.
Like many Corydoras, False Julii are egg scatterers. In well-maintained aquariums, spawning can often be encouraged with cooler water changes. Eggs are laid on plants, glass, or other surfaces and can be carefully collected and hatched separately to increase fry survival.
