This very nice N gauge locomotive by Arnold is 2023 a DB BR 221 diesel locomotive in red livery with running number 221 151-4.
The DB series V 200.1 is a diesel locomotive of the German Federal Railway. From 1962 to 1965 a total of 50 locomotives were purchased. In 1960, a first series of eight locomotives was ordered for the Allgäu Railway , and in 1961 this was increased by twelve more locomotives for the Vogelfluglinie . The first locomotive was handed over to the DB on November 27, 1962. Due to positive operating experiences, a further 30 locomotives were ordered in 1963.
The V 200.1 series locomotives were used particularly in fast and heavy passenger train services on the Allgäu Railway between Kempten (Allgäu) and Lindau and the Black Forest Railway between Offenburg and Konstanz.
The last place of operation for the machines, which were reclassified as class 221, was the Ruhr area , where heavy freight trains were hauled on main and branch lines. Due to the shutdown of the last steam locomotives, there was a great need for powerful diesel locomotives. The locomotives were initially stationed here in the Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck depot , after its dissolution the Oberhausen-Osterfeld depot was the last home of the 221 series until 1988.
At the end of 1988, the Greek OSE acquired a total of 20 machines and had them technically and optically refurbished in Germany and Italy. All locomotives received a new ocean blue and ivory paintwork based on the DB scheme and the company numbers A411 to A430. They were intended as a temporary solution for passenger transport, but were also used for freight transport. After being decommissioned at the end of the 1990s, the locomotives were purchased by Prignitzer Eisenbahn GmbH and returned to Germany by sea in 2002.
In 2020 there were still a total of 16 machines available. Some are preserved as museum locomotives, others continue to be used in freight and construction train service.
The loco is in very good condition as you can see in the pictures, it is tested and runs with working lights. A complete external visual inspection has shown the overall condition is very good. It comes complete with its box. The box is in good if slightly shelf worn condition. It has been sat on a shelf for a long time so would benefit from a service and more running. The box is in good but perhaps a bit shelf worn condition.
Overall this is a really nice scale locomotive and would look fantastic on a layout.
Do please have at look at our other listings, we typically have various HO and OO locos on offer as well as an extensive range of imported N gauge locos and other items.
Note: We do recommend all locos are cleaned & serviced, as they have some age to them even if the quality looks at the highest level (fairly standard advice for all locos!).
