This really nice and rare N gauge loco by Arnold is 2473 a Re 4/4 electric locomotive in BLS Brown livery. It has running number 193.

The BLS Ae 4/4 II , from 1969 Re 4/4 (since 1995: Re 425 ), is an electric universal locomotive of the former Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon Railway (BLS), which was put into service at the same time as the SBB Re 4/4 II . Since the company merger of 1996, the locomotives have been in service with the BLS Lötschberg Railway (now BLS AG ).

The BLS Ae 4/4 II was procured between 1964 and 1983 as a universal locomotive with good mountain performance, in order to be able to haul trains at higher speeds and to replace the locomotives of the founding years. The chassis is similar to that of the SBB Re 4/4 II . However, this is where the similarities to this also very successful series end.

Initially, the locomotives were primarily used in heavy express train service, where they gradually replaced the BLS Ae 6/8 , Ae 8/8, and Ae 4/4. As their numbers increased, their use was extended to all types of traffic. In regional and express services to Neuchâtel (now IR – Interregio), push-pull trains were also formed using Re 4/4 locomotives and driving trailers. Passenger service ended in December 2013. The Re 4/4 locomotives continue to be used in push-pull trains on the Kandersteg – Goppenstein car-carrying service and on the Kandersteg – Iselle holiday service.

BLS Cargo also use some of these locos. Loco 193 was retired in December 2025.

A number remain in preservation.

The loco is in good condition as you can see in the pictures, it is tested and runs with working lights, a complete external visual inspection has shown the overall condition is very good. The box is in good if slightly shelf worn condition.

Overall this is a really nice scale locomotive and would look fantastic on a layout.

Do please have at look at our other listings, we typically have various HO and OO locos on offer as well as an extensive range of imported N gauge locos and other items.

Note: We do recommend all locos are cleaned & serviced, as they have some age to them even if the quality looks at the highest level (fairly standard advice for all locos!).
