This very nice N gauge locomotive by Arnold is 2420 a Swiss Ee 3/3 electric locomotive in a SBB brown livery. It has running number 16312.
The Ee 3/3 are electric shunting locomotives of the Swiss Federal Railways. Three examples were built for other customers.
The progressive electrification of the SBB network increasingly demanded a replacement for steam locomotives used in shunting service. To this end, two prototypes were ordered in1921. These prototypes still featured a leading axle to comply with the axle load limit. From 1928 onwards, the series version without a leading axle was produced as the Ee 3/3, initially with the driver's cab at one end, which led to the nickname "flatiron". The locomotive was so successful that the last Ee 3/3 was not built until 1966, although large parts of the design remained unchanged over time. Eight of the Flatiron specification locos were in service until 1997.
The Ee 3/3 locomotives were procured as shunting locomotives for light and medium-weight service. Initially, they were also used for light freight trains, but later this ended as the locos were too slow.
The loco is in good condition as you can see in the pictures, it is tested and runs with working lights, a complete external visual inspection has shown the overall condition is very good. The box is in good if slightly shelf worn condition.
Overall this is a really nice scale locomotive and would look fantastic on a layout.
Do please have at look at our other listings, we typically have various HO and OO locos on offer as well as an extensive range of imported N gauge locos and other items.
Note: We do recommend all locos are cleaned & serviced, as they have some age to them even if the quality looks at the highest level (fairly standard advice for all locos!).
