• This is a 4-1/8 inch x 2-7/8 inch photo beautifully framed and matted featuring Nathaniel Hawthorne.
  • Hawthorne, from Salem, MA, was one of the most famous 19th century authors having penned such classics as The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables.
  • The limited edition, facsimile signed and numbered photograph print, is from the Mathew Brady Gallery Meserve Collection – printed “From the Original Glass Negative”. Time-Life Books made this limited offering of archivally processed contact prints, taken directly from 10 of the original Brady negatives (this listing is for 1 of them).
  • The simple black wood frame measures 12 inches x 9-1/2 inches x 3/8 inch in thickness. There are several scuff marks on the frame.
  • The piece is numbered 1891/2500.
  • Tab on the back for hanging is loose from the cardboard backing so you might want to get a new hook or wire to make sure it is secure.
  • The off-white matting is clean although there are a few pieces of surface dirt showing through – it looks like simply opening the back will enable you to clean it easily.
  • All in all, this is an attractive wall hanging featuring one of the greatest Americans – a beautiful piece of history.
  • Please disregard phone camera glare in the glass.
  • Pre-owned condition.
  • With this purchase, you will receive a copy of the one-page write-up of this Great American that came from the Mathew Brady Gallery Meserve Collection.

  • From Wikipedia: “Mathew B. Brady (c. 1822–1824 – January 15, 1896) was one of the earliest photographers in American history. Best known for his scenes of the Civil War, he studied under inventor Samuel Morse, who pioneered the daguerreotype technique in America. Brady opened his own studio in New York City in 1844, and photographed Andrew Jackson, John Quincy Adams, and Abraham Lincoln, among other public figures.”
