c. 1948 ..... made in the U.S zone of occupied Germany, shortly after the end of WW11

desirable large bike, with highly detailed litho printing

measures appx. 20 cm (l) ... nearly 8 inches

Tinplate construction, with internal, very complex wind up / clockwork mechanism.... automaton like / many different settings

Articulated motorcycle rider

**** the mechanism does not appear to be working; spring does not feel like it's tensioning (slipping or requires replacing) ****. 

Bike is such a lovely looking display piece, it is not something i would want to attempt replacing spring .... of course if you are capable with this sort of repair, you could end up with a wonderful working model.

i did try winding the key shaft in the opposite direction, to simulate the function of an unwinding spring..... manually doing this, the components do move , wheels, rider etc...

so it does seem the inner gears and workings are fine.... just the spring is not tensioning or working.

The bike's lovely appearance and lack of heavy wear, probably indicates the bike has not worked for decades ( previous owner had it packed away for some 20+ years).

Looks great displayed, and you can of course manually pose the rider about his motorcycle.

this is a real period piece, not a modern recreation; displays in excellent condition, with minimal play wear, surface marks, chips etc..

...... although not functioning mechanically

incredibly clean and rust free .......certainly not one of the usual rusty examples

untouched after nearly 80 years
