Nestled in the heart of the forests of Central Africa, the Lega people are
famous for his incredible artistic creativity, as evidenced by
the finesse and originality of its productions, which aroused interest
and the admiration of connoisseurs around the world. Both because of
the diversity of materials used - wood, ivory, horn, stone, fibers
plants – that of the multitude of artistic expressions used
- masks, statues, basketry, weaving, body aesthetics, the Lega
developed a very rich material culture. For this people
of Central Africa, art plays a fundamental role and is found at the
center of initiation rites which structure its social organization.
Throughout the exhibition, the objects presented
will be compared with various proverbs, which accompany the
oral transmission of Lega traditions.
