Meet “Briar
Rose”
Created: sometime in 1984
A charming one-of-a-kind handmade baby doll discovered at an estate sale several years ago. This delicate little art doll appears to have been lovingly handcrafted and is marked "Briar Rose" with the date "1984" in very tiny numbers painted on the back of her neck.
She measures 6" tall, and weighs 7 ounces, her head appears to be hand sculpted, her hands and feet look to be from very detailed molds. Hand-painted facial features with glazed finish. Her hair is light brown soft mohair with a little ponytail on top with a glued on mauve ribbon.
Her body is the beanbag type and she looks to be stuffed with Buckwheat. The buckwheat is in an inner pouch with her pale mauve lace sleeper permanently sewn onto the body, her hands are sewn into the sleeves and can be turned, the feet are sewn inside the sleeper and you can see the toenails details through the lace sleeper, both with mauve ribbons and pearls glued on to hold them in place, she is easily posable. Very good vintage condition for its age. The doll has been gently wiped down but never washed. The buckwheat filling has caused two very small light stains on the legs over the past 40+ years; they are difficult to notice unless closely inspected. Ribbons and pearl decorations remain attached.
This is a delicate vintage art doll and is not intended as a toy for small children.
