Parker 180 (1979–1985) – A Remarkable Dual-Point Innovation

Introduced in 1979 with the memorable slogan “It’s two — two — two mints in one!”, the Parker 180 marked a bold departure from traditional fountain pen design. Featuring a uniquely engineered arrowhead-shaped, almost flat nib, this innovative writing instrument was designed to write in two orientations — offering a standard medium line when used normally, and a finer line when rotated 180°, with the feed facing upward. At launch, Parker offered the 180 in a selection of refined finishes, including premium French lacquers such as Lapis Lazuli, Malachite, Red Quartz, Tortoiseshell, and Woodgrain. Despite its ingenuity and elegance, the Parker 180 had a relatively short production life and was discontinued in 1985 — making surviving examples increasingly desirable among collectors today.
