World War II Head of Luftwaffe Transport Command.

Generalleutnant Adolf Joseph Ferdinand 'Dolfo' Galland KC with Diamonds (1912-1996)

German Luftwaffe General and flying ace who served throughout World War II in Europe. He flew 705 combat missions, and fought on the Western front and in Defence of the Reich. On four occasions he survived being shot down, and he was credited with 104 aerial victories, all of them against the Western Allies.

Oberst Johannes 'Macky' Steinhoff KC with Swords (1913-1994)

World War II Luftwaffe fighter ace and NATO official.

Steinhoff was credited with 176 aerial victories, of which 152 were on the Eastern Front, 12 on the Western Front and 12 in the Mediterranean. He was shot down 12 times but bailed out only once. Explaining his preference to remain with his damaged aircraft, Steinhoff admitted, "I bailed out only once. I never trusted the parachutes. I always landed my damaged planes, hoping not to get bounced on the way down when I lost power".

Oberleutnant Oskar 'Ossi' Romm KC (1919-1993)

World War II Luftwaffe fighter ace credited with 92 victories, 82 on the Eastern Front and 10 on the Western Front.

Lt. General Gerald Walter Johnson (1919-2002)

World War II USAF fighter ace credited with 16.5 victories. He was shot down in March 1944, and spent 13 months as a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft I. After the war, he continued his military career rising to command several fighter and bomber wings during the 1950s and 60s. He commanded the Eighth Air Force for a period during the Vietnam War, and retired in 1974 after serving as Inspector General of the Air Force.
