BBURAGO DATSUN 280Z EAST AFRICAN SAFARI 1:24 WHITE/BLUE VINTAGE 1979 BOXED 0123
Early and rare Bburago model from 1979 using the earlier HAT (Hobbies And Toys) 113 casting with rally equipment added.]
The 240Z was quite successfully raced in the East African Safari Rally during the 1970s. In 1971, 240Z’s came 1st and 2nd in the 19th East African Safari Rally (1st = Edgar Herrmann & Hans Schüller, 2nd = Shekhar Mehta & Mike Doughty) and in 1973, a 240Z, driven by Shekhar Mehta & Lofty Drews, won the 21st East African Safari Rally.
Bburago likely created this model to use their existing 240Z casting and replicate the 1970s rally car (Corgi did too in 1:43 scale with #394 & Matchbox SuperKings K-52).
This example is in excellent condition - only missing its passenger side wing mounted chrome spotlight.
White paint with blue doors and bonnet, East African Safari rally decals, car number 85, SEIKO & NGK sponsorship decals, Nissan Motors and the J country plate/Rising Sun flag. There’s a chrome roof rack with sand tracks, spare battery, axle jack, wheel nut spinner, yellow water bottles, and a red and black fuel drum. There’s a spare wheel in the back, under the opening hatchback and the rear bumpers also have crash bars around the glazed rear lights. There is a black plastic reversing spotlamp and twin rear exhausts. The doors open to reveal a detailed black interior with chrome 3-spoke steering wheel and gear lever. The bonnet opens to reveal a chrome Nissan OHC straight 6 with triple carbs. It rides on Bburago design chrome 6-spoke wheels with grooved plastic tyres. Underneath is a detailed base with chrome transmission detail and black exhaust.
The Nissan S30, sold in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z but badged as the Datsun 240Z, 260Z, and 280Z for export, are 2-seat sports cars and 2+2 GT cars produced by Nissan from 1969 until 1978.
Nissan released the Datsun 280Z model for the North American market in the 1975 model year. In a further effort to keep the S30 models sporting in the face of increasingly stringent U.S. emission and safety requirements, engine size was again increased, this time to 2.8 liters. The L26 engine was bored out 3 mm (0.12 in) to create the L28, and a Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection system was added. Canadian versions were uniquely equipped without the anti-smog components mandatory in the States. The model code is HS30, the same as for the original 240Z.
