This old miter square has a blade that measures just short of ten inches. It is is straight, flat, and secure to the rosewood body. It is stamped C. G. Siewers Cincinnati WARRENTED. I found working dates for this maker from 1839 to 1866. The page at square info site Chaptico gives this info;
"Charles Siewers is known to many as a protégé of noted planemaker E. W. Carpenter of Lancaster, PA. He also married Carpenter's daughter before striking out on his own in Cincinnati by 1839. He produced a large variety of products, including squares, bevels, and gauges under his own name through at least 1866. He partnered at some point with John Wheatcroft, likely very early after his move to Cincinnati."
An early American toolmakers example of a not so common now miter square, make it yours today!

For information on old tools the resources at Mid West Tool Collectors Association are top notch. They have links collected there for everything antique tool related.
