The J & L Powder Horns Powder Horn is a vintage hunting accessory designed specifically for muzzle loaders, making it a must-have for enthusiasts and re-enactors. Crafted in the United States, this authentic piece is perfect for those looking to add a touch of history to their black powder hunting experiences. Its unique design and vintage appeal make it a sought-after item for mountain men and enthusiasts alike, adding both functionality and style to any hunting or sporting goods collection.  It's also an unique wall or desk decoration.
This is the second in my series of Applied Tip Horns
The horn is 13 1/2" on the bottom curve and is 2 3/8" in diameter at the base.
The base plug is hard maple with an integral flat style finial and some decorative grooves.
It is a laminated style base plug using a pine inner epoxied to the hard maple outer.
The horn was rounded with dry heat and the base plug is held in place with 8 narrow birch pegs.
The applied tip is lathe turned ebony and it is held in place with epoxy and also two narrow birch pegs.
It has an ebony fiddle peg for the stopper.
As with all my horns, it is air and water tight.
The horn has been sanded with a 400 grit belt sander and then burnished with 0000 steel wool. Next I polished it with a succession of sanding pads up to3,600 grit. Finally it was polished with white polishing compound to a nice high gloss shine. If you would want a more satin finish, you could first buff it with 000 steel wool to break the glaze then finish with 0000 steel wool.  I would apply a coat of paste wax afterwards.
