Museum-quality antique American art china — a stunning Pickard China hand-painted nut bowl, circa 1905–1910, bearing the original Pickard paper label on the base. In exceptional condition for its age.
About Pickard China: Founded by Wilder Pickard in Edgerton, Illinois, Pickard was America's premier china painting studio of the early 20th century. They imported high-quality European porcelain blanks and employed talented studio artists to paint them by hand — producing pieces that are now among the most avidly collected examples of American decorative art.
This bowl features:
- Form: Organically shaped oval bowl, approximately 8 inches wide × 4 inches tall, resting on four distinctive dark brown turned stub feet — a signature Pickard nut bowl design
- Rim: Scalloped gilt edge with hand-painted gold oak leaf and acorn corner ornaments — rich, heavy gilding in excellent condition
- Interior: Masterfully painted still life of walnuts, hazelnuts, and almonds arranged on a shadowed ground with soft atmospheric brown and amber tones — painterly technique well above typical transfer-decorated china
- Exterior: Continuation of the nut motif painted through a cream-to-mocha shaded ground
- Base: Original Pickard paper label "Hand Painted / Pickard / China" — early label type consistent with circa 1905–1910 production
