Up for sale due to having too many vehicles is my '97 Toyota Starlet Glanza rep, I'll start with a fair warning that this is far from a perfect car but in the 7 years of my ownership it has never failed to put a smile on my face.
Exterior: Originally a 1.3 UK Sportif, it was purchased by myself in the winter of 2019 wearing body panels in 5 different colours, it was quickly rectified by being painted into Honda Phoenix Yellow. This paint is showing signs of age now, several spots are a very slightly different tone as can be seen in the pictures and there is some mild chipping appearing on the bonnet. From a couple of steps away though, the paintwork is more than serviceable. It has a full Glanza bodykit (minus the sideskirts that are sat in my garage), although a lot of the pieces of the kit are quite notably damaged or modified, with cuts to the front bumper and the desirable mid-wing cracked.
Engine: The engine has been utterly indestructible in my ownership, with the only part that has needed replacement being a spark plug lead. It's running a corolla ECU and intake manifold pushing the engine up to an earth shattering 85 hp as seen in the later 4EFE Corollas, although this doesn't sound like much in a car this light and placeable it's an incredibly pleasant combination to drive. The only notable problem in this area is an occasional reluctance (1 in 100 or so) to get into third gear, although Clutching again always fixes this.
Chassis: It's currently running Michelin pilot sports on the rear and Toyo Proxes on the front, previously in my ownership it has been wearing exclusively full sets of MPS tyres, but these are becoming harder to source in the required tyre size for the Speedline wheels. The suspension benefits from 30mm lowering springs and an adjustable rear panhard rod to compensate for the lowered ride height. It has a standard Glanza chassis brace up front and a whiteline unit in the rear. Brakes are standard all around.
Rust: There isn't any critical rust. Yeah I know, hard to believe but somehow this UK supplied car has escaped the tin worm in any major capacity and has not needed welding at all in its last 130k miles.
Interior: It's currently running Mk7 Celica seats in the front, which are a large improvement over the OEM units and is running no seats in the rear which is a little more debatable as an "improvement". On the plus side, the cargo capacity with this modification is incredible, up to me managing to fit a double mattresses in the back. The interior is a mix of Glanza and standard UK starlet pieces, and it will come with a set of Glanza doorcards to replace the damaged sportif ones. A Sony Double DIN head unit that mostly functions when not in demo mode, tatty OMP wheel and "tastefully" installed cupholder are the only other notable features.
Other bits: There is a lot of general wear and tear, and neither the interior or exterior could be called in "good condition", but mechanically and functionally this is all solid. The NVH leaves a lot to be desired with the removal of the rear seats and the wear and tear contributing to half a dozen distinct knocks and rattles when under way. The Exhaust heatshield also intermittently likes to rattle when decelerating and cause a hell of a noise. The front bumper has been installed with parts of a "quick release" kit, By which I mean half a dozen strategic cable ties. This has actually held up incredibly well in my ownership, with the best part of 30k miles covered.
And that's it, I think. I've tried to be as brutally honest here as I can, but I cannot stress enough how much it pains me to sell this vehicle. As said before, it has not failed to put a smile on my face in the past 7 years, and I challenge anyone not to have an idiotic grin when going hard in this little nugget. Were it not currently one of 5 vehicles I own with limited space, I do not think I could bare to let it go. Please get in touch if you have any more questions or would like to come and take a look at the car.
