Lufthansa Airlines added Kingston to its South American DC-10 operations on April 2, 1976. This was a weekly Lufthansa service and the flights in each direction, between Germany and South America, took place a week apart.

A small boxed cachet, supplied by Lufthansa Airlines, was applied to Kingston covers. Those handled by the Kingston Post Office did not receive this cachet.

This cover was carried on the inaugural Lufthansa German Airlines flight from Kingston, Jamaica to New York (where it was backstamped) and is listed in the Jet Age Flights Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as J-1845.
