Copper engraved map on hand laid paper with later hand colouring.
Johannes Jansson (1588 - 1664) was born in Arnhem. In 1612 he married the daughter of cartographer and publisher Jodocus Hondius (1563-1612)and worked in partnership with Hondius in Amsterdam as a printer and publisher. He produced a large number of maps and atlases which rivalled the quality of the Blaeu family. Many of his maps drew heavily on other cartographers and mapmakers.
Christoph Heidmann (1581 - 1627) was a German philologist and geographer who was Professor of rhetoric at the University of Helmstedt. His 'Europa Geographiam was published posthumously in 1639 with maps by
Jansson. This map was published a copy of that book.
