On October 10, 1949 Air Mail Route 81 service was inaugurated on Segment 2 from Tulsa, Oklahoma via Okmulgee, Holdenville, and Durant, to Dallas, Texas.

This cover was carried on the inaugural Air Mail Route 81 flight from the Dallas, Texas Airport Mail Facility to Tulsa, Oklahoma (where it was backstamped) and is listed in the Contract Air Mail Flights (CAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as 81N13f.

Effective October 1, 1967, Central Airlines and Frontier Airlines were merged with Frontier Airlines being the survivor company. The certificate for the operation of Air Mail Route 81 formerly held by Central was reissued to Frontier and although Air Mail Route 81 retained its identity, Frontier assumed route authority effective this date.
