Question 1: what is the role of the NOx sensor?
A: The role of the nitrogen oxide sensor is to reduce the emission of nitrogen oxides into the environment. If it fails, the engine doesn't receive the right fuel-air mix. Consequently, the fuel consumption may increase and the engine operation may be affected. Due to its location, the sensor is exposed to mechanical and thermal damages.
Question 2: How does the NOx sensor work?
A: In the case of poorly mixed layer charging operation, the operating point of the motor is no longer lambda = 1 and thus is outside the best conversion range of the catalytic converter.
