Antique Wedgwood demitasse cup and saucer set featuring brown transferware floral decoration on an ivory/cream body. The design has a wonderful late Victorian Aesthetic Movement look, with dense floral vines, leaves, and an allover decorated saucer.
Both pieces are impressed WEDGWOOD on the underside (with each letter individually stamped). The mark does not include “England” or “Made in England,” which suggests this set likely dates to the late 19th century, circa 1870s–1890. The exact pattern name is unknown, so I am describing it as brown floral transferware.
The set displays beautifully, especially because the decoration is so detailed and helps the condition issues blend in visually. A close inspection shows several issues. The saucer has a hairline. It appears that an old stabilizing compound or repair material was applied to the underside at some point, and some of that material is coming off. The cup handle appears to have been reattached, but it feels solid and the decoration helps make it less noticeable. There are a couple of tiny flea bites on one side of the cup rim. There are also some sand-like specks or inclusions visible under the glaze, which appear to be factory/kiln flaws from manufacture.
