The optimized arrangement of one molded glass aspherical lens and three anomalous dispersion glass elements ideally eliminates chromatic aberration creating a three-dimensional image. The newly developed Extremely Low Reflection (ELR) coating uses an ultra-low refractive index film formation process to create nano-sized porous materials achieving far lower reflection characteristics than conventional coatings. The combination of two different coatings combined with the application of an ideal coating for each lens element achieves outstanding low reflection characteristics. To achieve beautiful bokeh during the optical design stage the lens features a circular aperture designed to be nearly circular at maximum apertures of F1.4 to F2.0 a setting frequently used in large-aperture standard lenses. The ring-type ultrasonic motor provides fast quiet AF response increasing subject focusing speed for snapshots and other photo opportunities.・To further strengthen the dust- and splash-proof construction a new seal has been added to the lens barrel in addition to the rubber seal on the mount. This prevents water droplets and dust from entering the lens protecting the lens from sudden rain or splashes while shooting.
