This is a genuine Ford Fairlane - Crown
Victoria model from 1956. As you may know, the Crown Victoria was Ford’s top-of-the-line
Fairlane trim package and only available for two years before going dormant for
almost a quarter century. You can’t miss
the “crown” trim on these cars, running across the roof both inside and
out. This particular example is not only
a beautiful automobile but is also a great driving car with lots of nice updates
including fresh paint, polished trim, new interior, rebuilt engine, and more.
Originally black and white, this one received a
repaint in Bermuda Blue and Colonial White for a more vibrant look. All the chrome and stainless was replaced or
polished for a nice shine – always important on cars from this era. Note the fender skirts with gravel guards
too. Additional work included rust
repairs to the floor for another 70 years of service. The steel wheels wear correct covers along
with 205/75R15 white stripe tires from 2022.
A set of chrome lake pipes is also included.
The original 292 ci engine has been replaced
with a rebuilt 312 featuring a tri-power induction setup with an Offenhauser
intake. Note the outer carburetors are
not active as this cruiser runs perfectly on the center unit, but we can enable
all three if interested. Like all Crown
Vics, this one has a Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission which includes
an external cooler. The suspension has new
control arm bushings, lower ball joints, and sway bar links. The power steering system was also serviced
while the brakes are manual drums with new wheel cylinders all around.
The interior was completely redone and matches
the exterior. Such a nice look! There is a front bench seat and matching rear
seat with a center folding armrest. The
carpet, door panels, and dashboard are all in excellent condition. So is the headliner which is wonderfully
accented by the Crown Victoria stainless trim.
A tilt steering column was installed and is topped by a Lecarra wheel
finished in white leather. A complete
new set of Dolphin gauges is present which includes a GPS speedometer, so
unlike many old cars everything reads correctly. The horn and wipers also work properly as do
the radio, clock, heater / defroster, and parking brake.
This really is a sharp car and a nice
presentation of the first-generation Crown Victoria. It not only has a wonderful
appearance inside and out but also runs as good as it looks. Let this one be your ticket back to the 50’s.
