PRECISION MINIATURES FERRARI 410 SPORT SS 1955 WHITE METAL 1:43 MODEL #014

Beautifully hand-made and painted white metal model by Precision Miniatures - of a 1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Scaglietti Spider (chassis number 0598CM), car number 43, raced by Juan Manuel Fangio & Eugenio Castelotti in the 1000km Buenos Aires 1956 (dnf - transmission). In red with a white race number 43, Ferrari nose badge, Scuderia Ferrari side shields, detailed front grille, metal headlights and body-mounted rear-view mirror, painted bonnet and passenger seat cover straps, silver fuel filler cap, clear windscreen, open side and rear vents, painted tail lights, a detailed interior with black floor and dashboard, silver transmission tunnel, wood-rimmed steering wheel and gear lever, detailed silver instrument dials and brown seat. The model is static with photo-etched metal spoked wheels and rims, 3-eared hub nut spinners and treaded rubber tyres. Underneath is a smooth black-painted base with silver painted exhausts and the model details stamped in the centre.

The Ferrari 410 S was a sports racing car produced by Ferrari in 1955–1956. After the racing successes of 375 Plus, mainly in 1954 Carrera Panamericana, Ferrari decided to prepare another model for this marathon. The 410 S was intended as a long-distance race car originally designed for the 1955 Carrera Panamericana and was the final model of the Lampredi V12 sports car lineage. The next generation of sports racing cars that replaced the 410 S were powered by the new Jano V12 engines.

The 410 S' first outing was 1956 1000km of Buenos Aires, driven by Juan Manuel Fangio and Eugenio Castellotti. Although two cars entered and neither finished, they achieved a top speed of 303 km/h (188 mph) and set a new lap record. This was the only race in which the 410 S was entered as a works car. Caroll Shelby raced one of those cars in United States with many victories in 1956: in Palm Springs, National Seafair, National Palm Springs, Governor's Trophy and New Smyrna Beach amongst them.

Phil Hill and Richie Ginther also raced in the US, the latter winning the 1957 Riverside race. Cars had common problems with rear axles or transmissions that could not endure the immense power. In 1957 Cuban Grand Prix, among many entered Ferraris, the 410 S was able to achieve second place, driven by Caroll Shelby. The car was entered by John Edgar. Same feat was repeated in 1958 edition of the Havana Grand Prix, this time Masten Gregory was behind the wheel.

Precision Miniatures was founded by Gene Parrill in 1978 and lasted until 1986. Originally 1:43 white metal models, fused with Motor City USA. Later 1:18 scale models used the same name and were based out of Dyesville, IA. In the space of 8 years, Precision Miniatures (PM) had designed, mastered, and cast about 30 models, built an international reputation, and then finally disappeared from the 1:43 scene. An innovative company, they introduced photo-etched wire wheels, and their first in house PM kits were as good as the best European kits, according to Wayne Moyer of Model Cars, who had the enviable task of reviewing them as they were issued.
