Djimini mask. Part of over 50 years. Delivered on base.
The Djimini, like the Tagouana, are Mandé northern Côte d'Ivoire. During the conquests of Samory, they paid a heavy price for not wanting to deal with him. Colonized by France in the 19th century, they adopted the imported religion. For these two reasons, masks and statuary have greatly disappeared among these two peoples. However, some rare masks and statues of which we were sure they were the representations of good geniuses were preserved. We notice the black and thick patina on the surface of this mask above. This is due to the art of the Djimini which mastered the varnishes of the pottery by using trees, techniques they replied on the surface of the masks. As for the use of the object, the accuracy has been forgotten. However, it remains carried during the maskarades during ritual ceremonies.
