This antique Chinese woven rattan suitcase is an exceptional piece of export-grade luggage dating from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic period. The interior features its rare, original paper manufacturer's label identifying it as a product of the Shing Hing Company, which was located at 113 Des Voeux Road in the Sai Ying Pun district of Hong Kong. This firm specialized in premium, tightly woven rattan wares designed specifically for international travel and trade across global ports. Historically, such pieces represent a significant era of commercial exchange between Hong Kong and the West, combining traditional Chinese craftsmanship with Western-style utilitarian luggage forms. Structurally, the exterior rattan remains remarkably tight and well-preserved, though the piece does show its age through typical small imperfections and light wear from historical use. On the interior, there is a notable crack in the wood bottom that has caused a clean tear through a portion of the decorative patterned paper lining. Please note that while the heavy brass locking hardware and side clasps are entirely intact, the original key is not included.
