DUNKIRK (2017)
Directed by Christopher Nolan, Dunkirk depicts the 1940 evacuation of Allied soldiers from the French coast during World War II, structured around three interwoven timelines: one week on land, one day at sea, and one hour in the air.
On Land (The Mole): British soldier Tommy survives a German ambush and joins thousands of troops awaiting evacuation. He allies with Gibson (revealed to be a French soldier) and Alex, surviving multiple ship sinkings before reaching a civilian vessel.
At Sea: Civilian sailor Mr. Dawson, his son Peter, and teenage helper George sail their boat, the Moonstone, to rescue soldiers. They save a shell-shocked officer and RAF pilot Collins, but George dies from a head injury sustained during a struggle with the officer.
In the Air: RAF pilot Farrier engages German fighters to protect the evacuation fleet. With a broken fuel gauge, he conserves fuel to shoot down bombers and ultimately glides his damaged Spitfire to a landing on the beach before being captured.
