ROYAL DOULTON COMMEMORATIVE CUP
"QUEEN ELIZABETH II"
CORONATION 1953
ITEM: Royal Doulton cup with the "E" insignia scrolled into the inside of the handle. Made in England by Doulton to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
DESCRIPTION: This cup is a slightly concave shape. The rim is smooth with gilt trim and a further gilt line around the inside top.The main decoration is a head and shoulders sepia photo of Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by an oak wreath on one side and the Royal Insignia and oak leaves on the other. There is a inscription along the top of the cup: " Commemorating the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II June 2nd 1953." An important feature is the gilt scroll of "E" inside the handle.
Note that the photos provided form part of the description. Any shiny spots or white marks are from the camera shots, not blemishes on the item.
MATERIAL: Bone china
COLOURING: On a white ground. Other colours are sepia,green, yellow, brown.
MEASUREMENTS: The cup is 9cms high and 8.25cms in diameter across the top.
CONDITION: No chips, cracks, crazing, staining or restoration. The cup appears to have had little use. In excellent vintage condition in my opinion.
MARKINGS: The base of the cup has a brown Royal Doulton lion and crown back stamp.
AGE: Dates to 1953, therefore 73 years old.
GENERAL COMMENTS: Lovely collectable from a by-gone era.A treasure for your collection. The "E" scrolled into the handle is a much sought after feature in QEII memorabilia
