Up for sale is a museum-quality piece of "phantom" Olympic history and wearable art: an official, hand-painted 100% silk 1998 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics promotional bid scarf.

Because Salt Lake City narrowly lost the 1998 host vote to Nagano, Japan, this scarf represents an Olympic event that never actually took place.

This luxury scarf features the painted signature of Utah artist Roberta Glidden alongside the stamp for Kriska Painting on Silk. Kriska is a multi-award-winning American studio honored with several Niche Awards for excellence in craft. This was commissioned by the Utah Bid Committee between 1989 and 1991 as a VIP presentation gift for visiting International Olympic Committee delegates and major dignitaries.

• Material: 100% Luxury Silk (Hand-painted with professional French dyes).
• Graphics: Meticulously hand-rendered image of the Wasatch mountains alongside the official Olympic rings and "Salt Lake City 1998" text.
• Markings: Signed "Roberta Glidden & Kriska Painting on silk" along the bottom edge. No retail apparel tags, as this was a custom studio-art commission.

Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. The silk is smooth, the hand-painted graphics are vibrant and crisp, and the edges are clean. A couple of minor dark spots appear on the edge and in the mountain. Nothing major wrong with this scarf.

An incredibly scarce investment piece for collectors of Olympic memorabilia, phantom sports history, or fine American textile art.
