Starting in 1891, U.S. customs law required all imported goods to be clearly marked with their country of origin in legible English. Japanese manufacturers complied by stamping export items with the word "Nippon" (the Japanese word for Japan). In 1921, U.S. Customs determined that "Nippon" was a Japanese term rather than an English one. From that point forward, imports had to be explicitly stamped with "Japan" or "Made in Japan". Thus this bowl pre dates 1921.

The hand-painted flowers consist of a mix of classic garden and field varieties typical of Japanese porcelain exports from the early 1900s: Chrysanthemums, Wildflowers or Field Daisies and Violets or Pansies.

Payment is expected within two days of purchase.  Recycled packaging material may be used. I am happy to combine items to save on shipping.

I make an effort to only sell cleaned items, so you don't need to worry about that "vintage" musty smell. If it has stains I cannot remove or damage I cannot repair, I don't sell it! Please review all pictures carefully and email for any questions or concerns before purchase. It is never my intention to distort or deceive anyone about the items I am selling. I try to expose as many flaws as I see and take a lot of photos for you to view. If I accidentally miss something, please let me know. I sell a variety of items and while I do know something about many of the items I sell, I am by no means an expert on everything.

If for any reason there is a problem with your purchase please contact me first so we can resolve the situation. I accept returns if I am notified within 48 hours of YOUR receipt of the item and the item is in the same original condition within 14 days. Unless an item is misrepresented, return shipping is on the buyer. I have had buyers use an item and then return which is frustrating and deceitful. Please be reasonable and I will as well.
