Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic Shure Brothers dynamic cardioid microphones from the 1980's that has been cleaned and tested. This is the earlier 2nd gen American made SM58 model that had the darker charcoal grey paint scheme that was factory set at low impedance. This mic is a rugged design with studio sound quality that was the industry standard and so well made that even 40 + years later this mic still sounds as good as the day it was sold. The mic comes with a generic style Shure A25 model mic clip as well as the new exterior Auray black foam pop filter for improved sound performance.

Pic # 2 shows a data sheet of the older American SM58 and all of it's characteristics.

Pic # 3 shows an older SM58 with an equally nice SM-59 model mic and their basic characteristics.

This mic was used by almost every musician and broadcaster under the sun. A favorite model for Bruce Springsteen for almost a decade and you'll see in pic # 4 a young Donna Summers using one live while performing. The newer SM-58's have been made in China for the past 25 years but they just don't measure up like the originals made in America.

The Low Z setting makes this mic ideal for general broadcasting and singing. The SM-58 has a very warm, smooth tone with a fair amount of bass. I believe these are set to 600 OHMS.   Excellent uni-directional characteristics as well. These mics are built like tanks and properly taken care of there is no reason this mic can't last 100 years. A real workhorse and one of the most rugged Shure mics ever built.

The mic has 100% output with zero issues and the XLR pins were cleaned for a perfect connection once the XLR cable is attached though no cable is provided. The SM58 is all metal design with a stock painted finish.

This mic is far from physically perfect. As you can see there are heavier signs of wear on the painted handle in the form of scratches and some paint chips here and there. There is some fair discoloration from years of handling and a lite engraving. The front globe looks pretty nice though. Zero tarnish, odors or dents. The inner foam insert / pop filter on the capsule was replaced as the original was all but falling apart. The globe inner pop filter was replaced as well however. I almost always replace these as the older ones are usually in rough and degraded condition. It helps greatly with acoustics and prevents the dreaded "pops" from breathing or windy conditions. The Shure label looks really nice and completely legible.

You'll see I'm including the brand new Auray brand exterior pop filter that fits the mic like a glove and compliments the mic but it really cleans up the tone of the mic. You won't need it for all situations but it's there in case you do.

The microphone is a very conservative 5 + on a scale of 1 - 10 physically speaking though the real beauty of this mic is the sound it produces. Hook this up and you are ready for any live event.

The mic clip is an older generic Shure A25 model. It's in great condition though and grips the mic firmly. It's an all plastic design that provides a good amount of tilt up and down and it will screw onto any desk or floor stand.

If you demand an affordable, older American SM-58 out there to use on the daily then this just might be for you. She's got several decades of life left in her and she sounds like new. These mics were just built to last.
