Copper engraved map on hand laid paper. Later hand colouring.

John Cowley (1719 - 1797) was an English cartographer, geologist and mathematician.  He was professor of mathematics at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich between 1761 and 1773 and elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1768.  He collaborated for several years with publisher Robert Dodsley (1703-1764) who worked from Tully's Head in Pall Mall.  This map is from 'The Geography of England' published in1744.

Map area is in good condition for age, engravings are clear, some browning, stains. Small repairs to margins and folds.  Hand colouring.
Fold as issued.  Blank on the reverse.
