History of the original Engraving:
Vintage La Visite Inattendue Print
Nicolas-Joseph Voyez, l'aine
Sigismund Freudeberg and Johann Heinrich Eberts 1774.
Engraving, 1774, Portalis & Béraldi 3, 360 x 276 mm., ex collection: ALG (Lugt 140c). A plate from the first series of the famous Monument du Costume, a series of genre pictures that essentially defines the world of fashion in France at the time. Fine impression on laid paper trimmed on or just within the plate mark but ample white space outside the image and text. Eberts apparently did the original design and Freudeberg the final drawing from which the engraving was made by Voyez. Such cooperative ventures were common practice.
This is a vintage print NOT an original etching. I do not know if it is signed ( the frame covers bottom of print).
