How A Master Pinning System Works:
1. Grand Master Key :-: This key fits any lock pinned within this chart (example: GMK = Grand Master)
2. Sub-Master Key :-: A sub master key will work any lock pinned within it's sub master (example: A = sub master) AND any lock pinned to it's affiliated Sub key (example: AA1 = sub)
3. Sub-Key :-: Sub key's only work the specific lock that it is pinned to (example: AA5 = sub)
Practical Application
-You have a building where you want 1 key to fit everything, but you also need to restrict access via keys given to specific keyholders.
-Each Individual door gets keyed to a SUB
-You have a keyholder in your IT department that only needs access to 1 door, you give a key that works that door only. This is a SUB key (AA1 / AA2 / AA3 etc...)
-You have a keyholder in your IT department, that need access to all doors within the IT department; You give a key that works all sub doors. This is the MASTER key (A)
-This process can be done with multiple departments.
EXAMPLE:
GMK = Owner / CEO
A = All of IT Department
AA1 = John's Door in IT
AA5 = Sarah's Door in IT
B = All Utilities
AB1 = Janitor doors
AB5 = Electrical Closet
C = All Admin Offices
AC1 = John's Door in Admin Offices
AC5 = Sarah's Door in Admin Offices
D = ETC....
Visualize the chart like this, where (>,<) is greater than and less than
The greater value fits all the less than values and the less than values do not fit the greater than values.
GMK>A>AA1, AA2, AA3, etc....
GMK>B>AB1, AB2, AB3, etc....
GMK>C>AC1, AC2, AC3, etc...
A does not fit B, C, D etc...
B does not fit A, C, D etc...
GMK Fits ALL A, B, C, D, AA1, AA2, AB1, AB2, AC1, AC2, AD1, AD2 etc.....
