This is a Hard Times Token, a type of privately minted U.S. copper token produced between 1833 and 1844 that functioned as small change during a period of economic instability.The token specifically features a donkey on the reverse, accompanied by the inscription "ROMAN FIRMNESS".It serves as a political satire from the era, mocking President Andrew Jackson's economic policies regarding the Bank of the United States.
