Rare Antique Early 19th C. English Needlework Sampler c.1833
A finely worked charming early 19th century English needlework sampler
Worked & Signed in 1833
Worked in red, dark Green, light green & cream silk threads on a linen ground
The sampler depicts the alphabet letters and numbers at the top of the sampler
Below that is a gorgeous row of stitched apples and then a row of the lower case alphabet
The centre has a religious verse -
“The lost of Man is much
The lost of Time is More
The lost of Christ is such a lost
We ever shall Implore”
At the bottom of the sampler is a wonderful stitched red brick house of the Georgian period with topiary trees and flowers in pots
Below that is what I believe is the name of the seamstress ? Morbane Worbrathe the date 1833.
The antique sampler is housed in an ole simple wooden frame
It has a stitched simple fliwer bud border around the sampler
Dimensions - Frame - 46.6cm x 41.5cm, sampler 43.3cm x 38.3cm
Good Condition - Overall condition is good for its age. There is some gentle, discolouration to the linen ground, consistent with its early 19th century date but no losses or holes
